THE CARTOON THIEVES Galway-based 5-piece The Cartoon Thieves have been in existence for just over a year. The band are fast becoming favourites on the local music scene with rapturous crowd responses and rave reviews to their string of recent shows. Their ears have been tuned to everything from Howlin Wolfs spook to Crazy Horses driving guitars, and while being students of the classic songwriting book, innovation and sculpting of new sounds is key to the band forging their own musical direction. Think Wilco and Tom Waits in his āBone Machineā? mode transported back in time to the Chess records era. Having honed their craft gigging constantly in their home town, The Cartoon Thieves first gig at Dublins Voodoo Lounge in April was well received, they were asked back to headline their own night at the venue. With other upcoming gigs in Derry, Dublin and Limerick, they are intent on setting up a countrywide fanbase through their energetic and electric live shows. The band are currently hard at work in the studio recording tracks tracks for their debut EP, which will be released in early July. |
